Last night I attended the knitting circle at Cafe Antique. I left my knitting sticks at home so I brought my mini loom and giant ball of ribbons. There, I coincidentally happen to meet Anna Ulff whom I have heard such nice things about since my recent trip to Kokkola! And when I started telling her about Ryijy project a fellow overhead and suggested I read the book Ryijyn taikaa: Opas ryijyn suunnitteluun ja valmistukseen by Ulla Karsikas.
I immediately checked if the local library had it on the shelves and there it waited for me. My walk to and fro Pohjan kirjasto took about 2 hours. That is devotion. On the way back I ran into one of the ladies from last night's knitting circle and told her I had just arrived from my library walk. I showed her the book and she helped me figure out one of my persistent obstacles. The book is very detailed with pictures and descriptions, but I couldn't find the bit on how to take off the weaving from the loom when you are finished. My new friend with a basket hanging from her arm carrying a few empty beer bottles helped me! My circle of luck is complete.

It's hard not to be inspired when you wake up to this beautiful view! With love, Arlene Tässä työpajassa osallistujat valmistavat oman pallonsa. Teoksen idea on saatu japanilaisesta temarista.
Reika Vesala on Kätketyt toiveet -työpajan johtava taiteilija. Hän on Ryijyn: weaving wishes residensia ohjelman osallistujajäsen Stoan Galleriassa. Tervetuloa! *** In this workshop, the participants make their own balls by rolling the stripe fabric. It's easy to make the ball and the workshop is suitable for all ages! Inside the ball they hide wishes written on paper. Those might be for their own or for some one else. The wish doesn’t need to be revealed. Also small items such as pebbles, small bells etc. might be hidden inside. The idea of the work is from Japanese temari. Temari means hand ball. When parents gave temari to their children, they may have hid a paper with wishes in it. The content has never been exposed. The ball as a gift marks loyalty and hope of good luck for the receiver. Workshops: Fri 7 July any time between 11.30 and 14:30 pm and Sat 15 July any time between 13:30 and 15:30. Reika Vesala is the leading artist for Hidden Wishes workshop. She is a participating member of Ryijy: weaving wishes' Residency Program at Stoa Gallery. Welcome! http://ryijy.weebly.com/residency.html Come celebrate the opening of Ryijy: creating connections and the Ryijy residency programme at Stoa!

"Tule kuulluksi! Maailma kylästä löytyi myös kierrätyskankaista revittyjä suikaleita, joihin festarikävijät saivat kirjoittaa unelmistaan, haaveistaan, peloistaan tai mistä tahansa, mitä ei kenellekään uskalla kertoa. Kudelmista muodostuu ryijy, joka muistuttaa siitä, miten paljon sanomattomia ajatuksia keskuudessamme vilisee. Jokainen salaisuus on samanarvoinen. Ajatusten muodostama ryijy on Arlene Tuckerin ja Daniel Malpican yhteisteos, joka kuvastaa yhteenkuuluvuutta. Tucker on kuvataiteilija, joka suunnittelee työkseen leluja ja pelejä. Tuckerin tarkoitus on rohkaista taiteessaan leikin kautta ihmiset kokemaan omaa elinympäristöään. Kävin kirjoittamassa omat ajatukseni ryijyyn. Kaikista eniten tämä työ herätti minut ajatukseen jokaisen kuulluksi tulemisesta. Hektisen maailman keskellä on hyvä muistaa pysähtyä. Kuunnella, mitä toisella on sanottavaa. Muistutus itselle olla läsnä, tässä ja nyt. Jokainen ajatus on samanarvoinen ja jokaisen haave yhtä arvokas." pamponen.blogspot.fi/2016/06/kulttuuria-maailma-kylassa.html 10-14 -vuotiaille
ke-pe 7.-9.6. klo 10-14 Kurssilla harjoitellaan omien ajatuksien ilmaisemista kuvataiteen, performanssin ja sanataiteen keinoin. Kurssilaiset pääsevät mm. uudelleen rakentamaan yhdessä Stoan galleriaan kesäksi jäävää taideteosta Ryijy, joka syntyi Maailma kylässä -festivaalilla kesällä 2016. Teos koostuu pitkille kangaspaloille kirjoitetuista unelmista. Ryijy: weaving wishes three day workshop will empower one to communicate and to understand what has been communicated. We will explore our voice and dialogue through visual arts, performance, and spoken word. During our time together, we will develop upon and reinstall Ryijy: weaving wishes in the Stoa gallery for the July exhibition. Kurssit ovat maksuttomia.
